They use special equipment like needles and collection tubes to take blood in a safe and clean way. After collecting the blood, they label and handle it properly to ensure accurate test results. Phlebotomy technicians also explain the process to patients to help them feel comfortable and calm. They need to follow strict safety rules to protect themselves and others from infections. In addition to drawing blood, they keep records of the samples and sometimes have to transport them to laboratories for testing. Overall, their work is important for diagnosing and treating medical conditions.

After finishing the course, you will be required to pass an online certification exam to earn your Phlebotomy Technician Certification. You can access the course anytime, day or night, and it works on mobile devices, making it easy to study wherever you are. You can finish the program in as little as 4 weeks, but you have a full 6 months from when you enroll to complete it. After enrolling, you can set up your own account with a password for quick access. If you prefer, we will automatically create an account for you.

Every student is assigned an instructor who will send a welcome email with account information and details about the program. Your instructor will be accessible to help with any questions you may have throughout the course.

Online Phlebotomy Class Prerequisites

To sign up for the Online Phlebotomy Technician Course, it's advisable to have a high school diploma or a GED. You don't need any prior work experience to get started in this program.

Online Phlebotomy Class Curriculum (Modules & Exams)

The Phlebotomy Technician training includes 170 hours of instructional content that covers 35 important topics, such as:

• Methods for processing samples

• Testing conducted at the point of care

• Approaches for providing compassionate care to patients

• How to use and maintain phlebotomy equipment

• Practices for keeping accurate records and documentation

• Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology

• Insight into disease processes

• Techniques for therapeutic communication

• Safe management of hazardous materials

• Skills for assessing patients

• Understanding the proper order of blood draw

• Strategies for locating veins and solving difficulties

• Overview of the phlebotomy scope of practice

To earn certification, students must pass a Certification Exam for each module upon completion of the training.

Phlebotomy Internship Requirements

In order to successfully complete the Phlebotomy Technician program, students are required to participate in a clinical internship where they will perform 30 supervised venipunctures. Each blood draw must be recorded and approved by a supervising professional.

Students have the opportunity to complete their internships in various healthcare environments, including urgent care centers, physicians' offices, hospitals, and clinics. It is encouraged that students start their internships by the time they finish the second module of their coursework. If a physical internship is not possible, students can opt for virtual alternatives.

To help meet clinical requirements, students can use the Virtual Simulation Kit (VSK). This kit allows them to practice their blood draw techniques, and they will record videos of their procedures. Instructors will provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement, and students will continue this practice until they have successfully completed all 30 blood draws.
